Alkborough is a small village in North Lincolnshire sitting on a low triangular promontory where the River Trent and the River Ouse meet to form the Humber. Its sea walls and flood defences overlook the broad mudflats and salt marshes of Alkborough Flats, giving expansive views out over the estuary and, on a clear day, towards Spurn Head and the surrounding coastline.
Those flats are an important stop for wading birds and seals, so the village quietly attracts walkers and birdwatchers as well as locals who work in agriculture and marine-related trades. The community retains a distinctly rural, historic feel with a parish church and village amenities, and sits close to the low-lying farmland of the Isle of Axholme, reflecting a long connection to river traffic, fishing and farming.
