Garthorpe is a small, rural village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, often linked administratively with neighbouring Fockerby. It sits on low‑lying agricultural land at the edge of the Isle of Axholme, with the nearby River Trent and the Humber estuary shaping much of the local landscape; the surrounding fen and floodplain were heavily influenced by historic drainage schemes and remain important for wetland wildlife.
The local economy is largely agricultural, with arable fields and market gardening dominant, while many residents commute to towns such as Scunthorpe or Goole. Community life is typical of small English villages, centred on a parish church, village hall and occasional local events, and the nearby waterways and marshes make the area popular with birdwatchers, anglers and walkers.
