Appletreewick is a tiny, picturesque parish tucked into upper Wharfedale in North Yorkshire, lying within the rolling limestone scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The valley here is marked by steep scars and small gills, with the nearby River Wharfe and winding lanes giving the area a distinctly rural, upland character; it’s a popular spot for walkers and anyone wanting easy access to classic Dales scenery without large villages or towns nearby.
The community is small and largely agricultural, with sheep farming and tourism - holiday cottages, B&Bs and walkers passing through - forming the backbone of the local economy. The settlement retains traditional stone buildings and small historic features typical of the Dales, and its social life centres on parish events and outdoor pursuits; like many places in the area it also has historic ties to past lead-working and the old packhorse routes that linked Dales communities.
