The Farndale West civil parish sits in North Yorkshire within the North York Moors, occupying part of the steep-sided valley of the River Dove. The landscape is a mix of narrow lanes, stone-built farmsteads and small hamlets such as Church Houses and Low Mill, with open heather moorland rising away from the valley floor.
Farming - largely sheep and beef - underpins the local economy, but the dale is best known for its spring carpets of wild daffodils, which draw walkers and wildlife enthusiasts and have encouraged a modest tourism and conservation focus alongside traditional rural life. Ancient field patterns, dry stone walls and a small, close-knit community give the area a strong sense of history and local identity.
