Gargrave is a compact village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, sitting on the banks of the River Aire at the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It lies on the A65 between Skipton and Settle and has its own railway station on the Leeds–Morecambe route, which has long made it a handy gateway for visitors heading into the Dales and the nearby Pennine hills.
The settlement retains a traditional feel with stone-built houses, a couple of long‑standing inns and a strong farming hinterland, while tourism, commuting and outdoor recreation now supplement agriculture in the local economy. It’s popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers, and the village maintains an active community life with small shops and occasional local events that reflect its rural, historic character.
