Middleton Tyas is a compact village in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, a short drive from the market town of Richmond, the military community at Catterick Garrison and the main north–south route of the A1(M). It sits between the rolling farmland of the Vale of Mowbray and the eastern fringes of the Yorkshire Dales, offering pleasant rural views towards the Pennines.
The settlement retains a historic core of stone houses and a parish church and has traditionally been agricultural, though today many residents commute to nearby towns. A village pub, primary school and active village hall help sustain community life, and the lanes and nearby countryside make Middleton Tyas popular with walkers and those looking for village character close to larger centres.
