Thornton in Craven is a small village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, set on the eastern fringes of the Pennines and within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales. The settlement is characteristically rural, with stone-built cottages, winding lanes and drystone walls giving a sense of long-established agricultural roots while offering good access to regional walking routes and rolling hill scenery.
Historically it grew as a farming community and today combines a quiet local life with a number of residents who commute to nearby market towns such as Skipton or to workplaces over the county border in places like Barnoldswick. Community life centres on a parish council and village events, and on clear days the skyline is dominated by the familiar shape of Pendle and other Pennine summits.
