Acklington

Acklington is a small, largely rural parish in Northumberland, sitting on the low-lying plain a few miles inland from the Northumberland coast between Morpeth and Alnwick. The landscape is a mix of arable farms, hedgerows and pockets of scrub and plantation, and its economy is still strongly agricultural with many residents commuting to larger towns for work; its proximity to the coast and to quieter lanes makes it popular for walking and riding.

The parish has a quietly layered history: an RAF station nearby was an important local employer in the 20th century and remnants of the airfield shape the character of the area today, while a former local railway halt served the community until the mid‑20th century. Socially it retains the feel of a close‑knit village community with a scattering of hamlets and traditional parish institutions that reflect rural Northumberland life.
