Hauxley

Hauxley is a small coastal parish in Northumberland, England, tucked beside the North Sea a short way from the harbour town of Amble. It is best known for the local nature reserve on reclaimed industrial land, where lagoons, reedbeds and saltmarsh have made it a magnet for migrating and wintering birds; the reserve is popular with birdwatchers and walkers following stretches of the coastal path.

Historically the area has a rural and industrial mix, with agricultural roots and later 19th–20th century coal-working in the wider district, and the landscape today reflects that transition from working countryside to managed wildlife habitat. The community is small and quiet, with a strong sense of place and a character shaped by the shore, the reserve and the surrounding lowland farmland.
