Pegswood is a small village in rural south Northumberland, England, lying a few miles south of Morpeth and within easy commuting distance of Newcastle. It sits on low-lying farmland and former coalfield terrain with a mix of older cottages and more recent housing, and the surrounding countryside offers walking and birdwatching opportunities where industrial land has been reclaimed by nature.
For much of the 19th and 20th centuries Pegswood was a coal‑mining community and that heritage still shapes the village - from rows of former miners’ housing to local memorials and a strong sense of community identity. Today Pegswood combines that history with a quieter, residential character: there are local clubs and a village hall, a primary school, and small-scale regeneration projects have sought to balance new development with preserving the village’s social fabric.
