Stakeford is a village in Northumberland, England, sitting on the north bank of the River Wansbeck close to the larger former coal towns of Ashington and Bedlington. It expanded with the 19th‑ and early‑20th century coal industry and still shows that industrial heritage in its streets and community memory, even though the pits have long since closed.
Today Stakeford is largely residential with local shops, pubs and community groups and some light industry, and many residents commute to Newcastle or nearby employment centres. The village’s position near the Northumberland coast and Druridge Bay gives easy access to beaches and countryside, and it retains a distinctive local identity rooted in its mining past and active community life.
