Brightwell-cum-Sotwell is a large, characterful village in the district of South Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, set amid rolling farmland and with easy access to the nearby River Thames and the market town of Wallingford. Historically the two settlements of Brightwell and Sotwell grew together and the area was part of Berkshire until county boundary changes in 1974; you still find timber‑framed houses, historic churches and several listed buildings that hint at its long rural past.
Today the village has a lively community life centred on a village hall, clubs and annual events, plus local amenities that attract families and commuters. Many residents travel to Oxford, Reading or London (often via Didcot), while the surrounding countryside supports agriculture, small local businesses and a strong sense of village identity.
