Eston is a former mining town within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland in north‑east England, set on the slopes of the Eston Hills. It grew rapidly after the mid‑19th century discovery of ironstone and the scars of that industrial past still shape the landscape - most notably Eston Nab, a grassy summit and local viewpoint with sweeping vistas over Teesside, the River Tees and across to the North York Moors.
Today Eston is largely residential, with a mixed economy and many residents commuting to nearby Middlesbrough and Redcar. Community life revolves around local shops, parks and the extensive walking and wildlife opportunities on the Eston Hills, while the town’s industrial heritage is still evident and occasionally celebrated in local projects and regeneration efforts.
