Oldbury is a ward and town within the borough of Sandwell in the West Midlands, sitting on the edge of the Black Country to the west of Birmingham. Historically it lay in Worcestershire and expanded rapidly in the 19th century with coal, glass and metalworking industries; today it occupies a mix of residential streets and industrial estates with good road links to the surrounding towns and motorways.
The industrial heritage is still visible in former factories and terraces, even as the town centre has seen regeneration and a shift towards retail, light industry and local services. A diverse, multicultural community and active local clubs, churches and mosques supplement sports and green-space provision, giving Oldbury a strong local identity amid ongoing economic and social change.
