Great Bridge is a built-up ward in Sandwell in the West Midlands, situated between Tipton and West Bromwich. It expanded rapidly in the 19th century around canals, railways and foundries, leaving an industrial heritage even as the area - historically part of Staffordshire - has shifted towards retail and light industry; local trading streets and redeveloped brownfield sites now sit alongside surviving boat basins and Victorian terraces.
The community is socially diverse and supported by schools, community centres and places of worship, with decent road links into the wider Black Country and the M5 corridor. Regeneration has been a steady theme, and local history groups and civic organisations often celebrate the ward’s canal and railway past while campaigning for improved services and green spaces.
