Meriden is a semi-rural ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in the West Midlands, centred on the long-established village of the same name that sits roughly between Birmingham and Coventry. The village green, a medieval cross and the parish church of St Laurence give the area a strong historic character and have helped fuel its traditional claim as the "centre of England". Much of the ward lies within the Green Belt, so open fields, hedgerows and country lanes remain prominent features.
Today the community combines farming and small local businesses with a sizeable commuter population who work in nearby towns and cities; local pubs, village halls and clubs keep a lively social scene. Walkers value the countryside paths and quieter lanes - the ward’s mix of heritage, green space and good road links makes it a broadly residential but distinctly rural part of Solihull borough.
