Castle Cary is a small historic market town and civil parish in Somerset, England, set on the gentle farmland of the River Cary and close to the rolling uplands of the Mendip Hills and the low-lying Somerset Levels. Its origins are visible in earthworks from a medieval motte-and-bailey (near Ansford) and a long market tradition, giving the centre a mix of period buildings and a modest parish church set around independent shops and antique dealers.
Today the local economy still leans on agriculture and small businesses, with more visitors arriving thanks to good road and rail links to larger centres such as Bath, Bristol and London. The community is known for local events and artisan producers, and the surrounding countryside makes it popular for walking and exploring nearby historic houses and rural attractions.
