Lympsham is a small village and civil parish in Somerset, England, set on the fringe of the flat, low-lying Somerset Levels beneath the sweep of the Polden Hills. It lies a few miles from the market town of Bridgwater and is surrounded by pasture and arable farmland, the drained peatlands and network of ditches that characterise this part of the county giving the local landscape a strong agricultural and ecological identity.
The village has a long history reflected in its parish church and surviving medieval features, while today the economy remains largely rural with many residents commuting to nearby towns. Social life is focused on the village hall, church and local clubs, and the proximity to the Levels attracts walkers and birdwatchers as well as anyone interested in the region’s history of drainage, peat working and traditional rural crafts.
