Stogursey is a small, characterful village in rural Somerset, perched not far from the coast and with easy access to the rolling woodlands of the Quantock Hills and the low-lying Somerset Levels. The setting gives it a mix of coastal and upland scenery, and the village feels like a quiet hub for walkers and country visitors drawn to the nearby shoreline of the Bristol Channel.
Historically known as Stoke Courcy after its medieval lords, the village retains visible reminders of that past in the form of priory and castle earthworks dating back to the Norman period. Today it’s a close-knit, largely rural community with agricultural roots, a handful of period cottages and parish buildings, and a local social life keyed to village events and countryside tourism rather than heavy industry.
