Otterhampton sits on the edge of the Somerset Levels beside the mouth of the River Parrett, looking out over Bridgwater Bay and the low-lying Steart Peninsula. The landscape is notable for its salt marshes and reclaimed grazing land, and the creation of the Steart Marshes reserve has made parts of the foreshore an important haven for waders and wildfowl, drawing birdwatchers and walkers to the area.
Small settlements such as Combwich reflect the parish’s maritime and agricultural roots; the quay has historically handled local shipping and in recent years has been used for work related to Hinkley Point. Day-to-day life is quiet and rural, with farming and small-scale tourism forming the backbone of the local economy and many residents looking to nearby Bridgwater for services and employment in England.
