Cannock Wood is a small village set on the edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England. Sitting on a sandstone ridge, it is surrounded by mixed deciduous woodland and open heath that form part of the Chase’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the landscape is popular with walkers, mountain bikers and riders and supports notable wildlife such as nightjars and other heathland species.
Historically the Chase was a royal hunting forest and the wider area contains Bronze Age barrows and a patchwork of old quarries and mining sites, while the village itself retains a rural character with a village hall, a couple of pubs and an active local community. Many residents commute to nearby towns such as Rugeley or Stafford, and outdoor recreation and low-key tourism play an important role in the local economy.
