Burntwood is a town and civil parish in the district of Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, sitting on the southern fringe of Cannock Chase. It grew substantially during the 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the Cannock Chase coalfield; the town’s name is commonly thought to come from woodland cleared by burning, and several former pit sites and terraces recall that industrial past.
Today Burntwood is largely a residential and commuter town for nearby Birmingham and Lichfield, with local shops, sports clubs and a strong community spirit. Its proximity to green spaces such as Chasewater and the trails across Cannock Chase makes it popular with walkers and families, blending suburban living with easy access to the countryside.
