The villages of Harriseahead, Mow Cop and Newchapel lie on a high ridge on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire within the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, England. Mow Cop is dominated by the dramatic folly known as Mow Cop Castle atop a prominent hill, offering wide views across the Cheshire Plain towards the Peak District and making the area popular with walkers and photographers.
Once shaped by coal mining and quarrying as part of the North Staffordshire industrial landscape, the settlements retain a strong village feel with terraces and stone cottages, local pubs and community halls. Mow Cop is also historically notable as the birthplace of the Primitive Methodist movement in 1807; today the trio is largely residential, attracting commuters and outdoor enthusiasts while keeping a tight-knit local identity.
