Upper Tean is a compact village in the district of Staffordshire Moorlands, in the county of Staffordshire, England. It sits amid rolling farmland and small wooded cloughs on the southern edge of the moorlands, a short drive from the market towns of Cheadle and Uttoxeter and within easy reach of the Peak District, which makes it popular with people who want village life with access to nearby countryside and larger centres.
Historically the settlement grew around agriculture and small-scale industry, and you can still see 19th-century terraces and former mill buildings alongside modern housing; it forms part of the civil parish of Checkley. Local life is centred on community facilities such as a village hall, pubs, shops and a primary school, and the village today has a mixed economy of local businesses and commuters travelling to nearby towns like Stoke-on-Trent for work. The area retains a strong village-community feel with occasional local events and outdoor pursuits on the surrounding moorland and farmland.
