Marple is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, in Greater Manchester and historically part of Cheshire, sitting on the edge of the Peak District and alongside the River Goyt. It is particularly noted for its canal and industrial heritage - the stone Marple Aqueduct carries the Peak Forest Canal across the valley and the nearby flight of locks and towpaths make it a popular spot for walkers and boat-watchers.
Historically a mill town, Marple has become largely residential and functions as a commuter base for Manchester, while retaining independent shops, pubs and community groups. The mix of attractive countryside access, canal and railway heritage gives it a village-like social feel despite good transport links and suburban convenience.
