Egglescliffe is a village and civil parish in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees, historically in County Durham, in north‑east England. It perches on the slopes above the River Tees opposite Yarm and lies close to the town of Eaglescliffe, with convenient rail and road links into Teesside. The core retains an ancient feel centred on the Norman‑era parish church of St John the Baptist and traces of a medieval manorial landscape, while later 19th‑ and 20th‑century development created a mix of village and commuter suburb.
The local economy has a rural and small‑scale retail character - shops, pubs and community facilities - yet many residents commute to nearby centres such as Middlesbrough or Durham. Socially it’s known for riverside walks and attractive viewpoints over the Tees; there’s often confusion between the older village of Egglescliffe and the adjacent town of Eaglescliffe, but together they make up a popular, quietly prosperous part of the Tees valley.
