Layham is a small, rural parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England, straddling the River Brett and traditionally divided into the two settlements of Upper Layham and Lower Layham. The area is characteristic of south Suffolk with lanes, orchards and timber‑framed cottages, and it retains medieval parish churches and a number of historic, listed buildings.
Historically agricultural, the parish still has strong farming roots but also serves as a quiet commuter community for nearby towns such as Ipswich and Hadleigh. There’s an active local life centred on village events, footpaths and conservation interests, which together keep its rural character while accommodating modern residents.
