Effingham is a leafy ward in the borough of Guildford, in Surrey, England, sitting on the edge of the Surrey Hills AONB. It combines stretches of common land and woodland with a compact village centre, giving a distinctly rural feel despite being within easy commuting distance of London via the nearby A3 and rail links.
Locally the area is known for its conservation-minded village character, an old parish church, a couple of long-standing pubs and an active village hall and societies; the economy is largely residential with small local businesses, equestrian activity and some remaining agricultural land. Community events, informal sports on the commons and a sense of continuity between historic buildings and modern commuter life are all part of its appeal.
