Stalybridge is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, in Greater Manchester, England. It sits on the eastern fringe of the Pennines at the confluence of local waterways including the River Tame, so the town combines terraced mill streets with easy access to moorland, reservoirs and popular walking country.
Historically a 19th‑century mill town shaped by the textile industry and associated engineering, Stalybridge still shows that industrial heritage alongside canals, civic buildings and community sports clubs such as its non‑league football side. Today it functions largely as a local service and commuter town for Manchester, while retaining a strong sense of local identity through brass‑banding, small businesses and outdoor leisure opportunities.
