Dukinfield sits in the borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, historically part of Cheshire, perched on the banks of the River Tame at the eastern edge of the conurbation near Stalybridge, Hyde and Ashton-under-Lyne. Its location close to the Pennines and the Peak District gives an easy escape to hills and reservoirs while keeping quick access to larger urban centres.
The town’s 19th‑century boom as a coal‑mining and cotton‑mill centre still colours the streets today, with rows of terraced housing and several former mill buildings repurposed for modern use. Local parks such as Dukinfield Park, community groups and a small retail and leisure centre sustain a largely residential, commuter‑oriented population, and there are good road and rail connections into Manchester and the surrounding towns.
