Hyde Newton is a ward in the metropolitan borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester, to the east of Manchester. It covers part of the old mill town of Hyde and combines dense residential streets and local shopping centred on the town with traces of its industrial past along the River Tame, where former cotton mills and warehouses have been repurposed or sit as reminders of the 19th‑century boom.
The area has a typically mixed post‑industrial economy, with local schools, community centres, pubs and small retailers playing a central role, and decent rail and road links into Manchester. Community groups and regeneration projects are active, while nearby green spaces offer residents a contrast to the built environment, reflecting the social and cultural shifts that have shaped many Greater Manchester towns.
