Carrington is a small village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, in Greater Manchester, historically part of Lancashire. It lies beside the Manchester Ship Canal and close to the River Mersey, with open peatlands known as Carrington Moss giving the area a semi-rural feel despite being within easy reach of Manchester.
The parish is notable for a striking mix of village life and heavy industry: large industrial estates and significant energy and chemical infrastructure (including a modern gas-fired power facility and major logistics sites) dominate the local economy and skyline. Once largely agricultural, Carrington’s landscape was reshaped in the 20th century, and today a small local community balances industrial neighbours with pockets of green space and local amenities.
