Cold Ash is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire, in England, set on the northern slopes of the Berkshire Downs above the Kennet Valley. It sits a short drive east of Newbury and close to Thatcham, and much of the parish lies close to the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, giving it a mix of heathland, woodland and open downland with long rural views.
Originally growing in the 19th century as a semi-rural residential retreat, Cold Ash still shows a lot of period character in its Victorian and Edwardian houses. Local life is centred on village halls, churches, shops, pubs, schools and sports clubs; the economy is largely residential and service-based, with many people commuting to nearby towns, while walkers and nature-lovers make the most of the surrounding countryside and waymarked routes.
