Cocking is a small village and civil parish in the district of Chichester, in West Sussex, England, set on the scarp and lower slopes of the South Downs. The compact settlement, with traditional flint-and-brick buildings clustered around a church and green, sits beneath Cocking Hill and affords fine views across the Weald and, on clear days, toward the English Channel.
Historically shaped by downland sheep and arable farming, the local economy is still rooted in agriculture but now mixes small businesses, tourism and commuters to nearby towns. The parish is popular with walkers and cyclists because of its easy access to open downland and long-distance routes; socially it retains an active village hall, annual fetes and a village pub that serve as community hubs, and several listed buildings reflect its long rural past.
