Stedham is a small rural village and parish in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England, set beside the valley of the River Rother a few miles west of Midhurst. The settlement retains a historic parish church, traces of its milling and agricultural past and attractive commons and woodlands that give a strong sense of place in the rolling downland countryside.
The local economy remains largely agricultural with many residents commuting to nearby market towns such as Midhurst and Petworth, while walkers and wildlife enthusiasts value the nearby commons and access to the South Downs landscape. There is also a small literary footnote: neighbouring Iping was used by H. G. Wells in The Invisible Man, adding a quirky cultural association to the area.
