Bramber is a small historic village in the district of Horsham, West Sussex, England, set on the south bank of the River Adur and close to the South Downs. Its skyline is dominated by the ruins of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle built by the de Braose family, and the compact High Street is notable for a number of listed buildings and a medieval church that hint at its once-important role as a riverside centre and market settlement.
Historically a medieval port that declined as the river silted, the village today has a largely rural economy with agriculture, small businesses and some commuter residents, while tourism and riverside walks attract history enthusiasts. The community retains a quiet village feel and sits within easy reach of neighbouring towns such as Steyning and Shoreham-by-Sea, combining heritage interest with access to the Downs and the coast.
