Milnthorpe is a small market town in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, in north‑west England. It sits on the busy A6 between Kendal and Carnforth, on the fringe of the Lake District and the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it a handy base for walkers and for visitors to nearby historic houses such as Levens Hall.
Historically a coaching and agricultural market centre, Milnthorpe still retains a lively high street of independent shops, cafés and antiques outlets and acts as a service hub for surrounding farms. The town has an active community life with seasonal fairs and local groups, and tourism from the lakes and nearby coast supplements the local economy, giving it a relaxed, village atmosphere despite good road links.
