The ward covers Walney Island in Westmorland and Furness, England, a long, low island sitting off Barrow-in-Furness at the mouth of Morecambe Bay and facing the Irish Sea. It is linked to the town by the Jubilee Bridge and contains residential areas such as Vickerstown alongside quieter north and south ends with sandy beaches, dunes and foreshore popular with walkers and wind-sport enthusiasts.
The island has a strong identity tied to Barrow’s shipbuilding history - Vickerstown was originally built for shipyard workers - and today many residents commute to local industry while nearby the Walney Offshore Wind Farm has brought a modern economic and visual landmark. Wildlife is a big draw too: the northern dunes and mudflats are important for waders and seabirds, giving the ward a mix of working-community character and significant natural interest.
