Baydon is a small village and civil parish in eastern Wiltshire, sitting close to the county boundary with Berkshire and within easy reach of both Swindon and Marlborough. It occupies typical Wiltshire chalk downland countryside, with rolling arable fields and hedgerows that give the area a distinctly rural character and attractive walking country on the nearby Marlborough Downs.
Historically an agricultural community, Baydon now combines farming with a number of residents who commute to surrounding towns, yet retains a strong local identity centred on village institutions and occasional community events. There are glimpses of older settlement in the layout and buildings, and the parish’s quiet lanes and countryside feel make it a representative example of a small, closely knit Wiltshire village.
