Marlborough is a historic market town in Wiltshire, England, set on the banks of the River Kennet and well known for one of the widest High Streets in the country, lined with attractive period buildings. It grew up in medieval times and later served as a coaching and market hub for the surrounding chalk downland.
Today Marlborough is a lively local centre with independent shops, cafés and a strong education presence through Marlborough College, while tourism and services support the economy. Its location close to prehistoric landscapes such as Avebury and Stonehenge, and to Savernake Forest, makes it a popular base for walkers and visitors interested in history and the countryside.
