Chute Forest is a small, very rural civil parish in the north‑east of Wiltshire, sitting close to the county boundary with Hampshire and neighbouring the little village of Chute. The landscape is a mix of rolling chalk downland and pockets of old woodland and estate planting, which gives the area a noticeably enclosed, wooded character compared with some surrounding parishes.
Its name recalls a historic role as a hunting forest attached to the local manor, and traces of that estate past survive in mature trees, old rides and lanes. Today the parish has a tiny population, an economy focused on agriculture and estate land management, and a quiet, close‑knit feel - many people commute to nearby towns such as Salisbury and Andover while locals make the most of footpaths, country pursuits and village connections.
