Netheravon is a small Wiltshire village tucked on the banks of the River Avon at the eastern edge of Salisbury Plain, its name reflecting its riverside position in contrast to nearby Upavon. The setting gives a pleasant mix of chalk downland views, riparian meadows and easy access to extensive army training areas, so countryside and military activity feel part of everyday life.
The village has a long history and a close-knit community centred on an ancient parish church and village amenities, while its economy remains largely rural with farming alongside service and commuter links to nearby towns such as Amesbury. A particularly notable feature is RAF Netheravon - an airfield with strong military and aviation associations since the early 20th century, now remembered in local culture and still used for flying and community events.
