Tilshead is a small village and civil parish in Wiltshire, set on the chalk of Salisbury Plain with the spring-fed River Till running nearby. The surrounding landscape is classic downland - rolling chalk hills peppered with prehistoric earthworks and burial mounds - while large tracts of the plain are used for military training, a factor that has long shaped land use and public access in the area.
Locally the economy has traditionally been agricultural, complemented today by the presence of defence activity and a small, close-knit rural community. The village retains historic buildings and a parish church of medieval origin, and social life tends to centre on community events and countryside pursuits such as walking and riding across the distinctive downland scenery.
