West Overton is a small, rural parish in Wiltshire on the northern edge of the Marlborough Downs, a few miles west of Marlborough. Its landscape is classic chalk downland and rolling farmland, with lanes, hedgerows and a scattering of ancient barrows and tumuli that hint at a long human presence; the parish sits close to the prehistoric ceremonial landscape around Avebury and the West Kennet Long Barrow.
Locally the economy and daily life are shaped by arable farming, smallholdings and conservation work, with a tight-knit community using a village church and hall for social life and events. Visitors are drawn by walking country lanes, wildlife and archaeology rather than shops or industry, so tourism, heritage interest and rural services play a noticeable part alongside traditional farming.
