Wilton is a small market town and electoral ward in Wiltshire, immediately west of Salisbury where the River Wylye meets the River Nadder. The ward combines a compact historic centre of stone buildings with surrounding rural hamlets on the edge of Salisbury Plain, giving it a mix of river-valley scenery and easy access to larger urban services.
Historically noted for its medieval cloth trade and later carpet manufacture - famously under the name Wilton Carpets - the town also benefits from the presence of Wilton House, a major country-house attraction that draws visitors and supports local events. Today the local economy blends tourism, light industry and commuter households, while a tight-knit community maintains markets, local clubs and village-style social life characteristic of many Wiltshire towns.
