Newtonhill is a small coastal village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, set on the North Sea coast between Aberdeen and Stonehaven and just north of Portlethen. It grew out of an older fishing hamlet once known as Skateraw and expanded through the 19th and 20th centuries as housing spread along the shore.
Today Newtonhill is largely a commuter community with many residents working in and around Aberdeen and the energy sector, but it still prizes its coastal walks, cliffs and beaches and a close‑knit village feel with active community groups and local facilities. The railway line runs past the village - the local station was closed in the mid‑20th century and proposals to improve public transport access have come up periodically - and the surrounding area contains several historic coastal sites and ancient trackways of interest.
