Ferryden is a small coastal village on the south bank of the River South Esk, opposite Montrose in Angus, Scotland. It grew up around fishing, a ferry link and a modest harbour, and its seafront terraces and boatyards still reflect that maritime past; today many residents commute to nearby towns while walkers and birdwatchers use the estuary paths and viewpoints.
The little tidal island of Inchbraoch sits in the estuary close to Ferryden and forms part of the mosaic of mudflats and saltmarsh that characterises this stretch of coast. Largely uninhabited, it is valued for coastal habitat and seabirds and adds a quiet, historic element to the area - these small isles were often used for grazing or seasonal activity and now attract wildlife‑watchers and those exploring the Angus coastline.
