Montrose and District sits on the east coast of Angus in Scotland, backing onto the tidal lagoon of the Montrose Basin and the wide sands of the North Sea. The basin is an internationally important RSPB reserve, giving the ward a strong reputation for birdwatching and wildlife, while the old harbour and Montrose Port reflect a maritime character that still supports local industry and leisure boating.
The area mixes Georgian streets and civic architecture with farming hinterland and coastal recreation; golf at the historic Montrose Links, one of the game’s oldest courses, and the nearby Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre nod to the town’s sporting and aviation past. Economically the ward acts as a service centre for north Angus with tourism, port-related activity, agriculture and energy businesses contributing alongside a lively local community calendar of music and cultural events.
