Renfrew is a small town on the south bank of the River Clyde in Renfrewshire, just west of Glasgow and beside Paisley. It has a long history as a royal burgh and locally enjoys the historic claim of being the "cradle" of the Stewart dynasty; its riverside location gave it traditional links with shipbuilding and river trade.
Today Renfrew mixes residential streets with commercial and light‑industrial areas, benefiting from proximity to Glasgow Airport, the large retail and leisure complex at Braehead and nearby industrial estates such as Hillington. Good road and public‑transport links into the city mean the town functions as both a commuter base and a local centre with a lively community identity and regular civic activities.
