Aberdour is a picturesque coastal village on the south coast of Fife, perched on the edge of the Firth of Forth and known for its twin beaches, the sandy Silver Sands and the rockier Black Sands, with wide views out towards the Bass Rock and across to Edinburgh. The small harbour, promenades and nearby coastal paths make it popular for day-trippers, sailing and family outings.
Its compact centre retains a strong sense of community and history: the medieval Aberdour Castle with its well‑kept gardens is one of Scotland’s oldest surviving domestic buildings, and the village combines a tourism-focused economy with a number of locals who commute into Edinburgh, supported by regular rail services. Small festivals, cafés and independent shops give Aberdour a lively yet relaxed character year‑round.
